Sometimes, a simple conversation can lead to an artistic breakthrough; a reflective coming together can provoke the need for new cultural initiatives to negotiate with roadblocks in the field; and small steps to support artists can go a long way in building a supportive, economically-viable, and non-alienating community.
Rooted in the creation of such spaces to further the discourses on Pune’s art scene, the exhibition, Common Ground, brings together works by selected artists from Pune, who have been closely associated with and influenced by the city. With works responding to wide-ranging experiences, concerns, and ideas, the exhibition celebrates the diversity and potential of the city’s artistic and cultural environment.
Sensing the need for a support system and network, that is significant for the sustenance and furtherance of artistic practices, Common Ground also acts as a catalyst to foster conversations between artists and experts. Thereby, all gallery proceeds from the show will lead to the creation of a grant to support young artists in Pune, in turn building a robust and lively art community.
