As a conceptualist artist, my artworks include socially-themed projects forming around our communal experiences in today’s world. Therefore, I try using laymen language and symbols for my presentations. I make use of mixed media as it provides me the freedom to use various techniques depending on the concept in order to reach the maximum concept unity and the artwork aesthetics.
Each of my projects has their unique way of expression and on ,many occasions I have attempted to break free from the frameworks of that medium and go beyond the borders. For instance, in the series “The Other Side” I decided to use the blank reverse sides of the pictures. As we know these parts are always concealed and forgotten in the frames, I printed women’s hair on the reverse sides and covered it with handmade mixture of emulsion and gelatin. it to symbolize the fact that as Muslim Iranian women our hair is constantly concealed.
I strive for my works to represent the current occurrences in Iran and neighbouring countries in the region. The unrest in Syria, Yemen and the battles in Afghanistan and Ukraine have made their residents suffer from disasters and bitter experiences on a daily basis to the extent that from the eyes of an external observer all these horrifying calamities and bloodshed have become part of their daily lives and become ingrained in people’s mind.
Through this exhibition I want the viewers to empathize and carry with them a part of this experience - these “ordinary” life events of the residents of these countries in their heart, as they interact with the artworks, reminding all of us that at this very moment there are people perturbed and devastated under unbearable pressure of war, unimaginable violence and homelessness.
